That moment when my mascara gravitates to my lids, flakes under my eyes, and crawls to the keyboard… is the moment that I dread. Check out some great smudge proof eye makeup options below, to successfully avoid the raccoon eye look.
If you love your mascara, but it doesn’t make it through the day, pop on the NYX Proof It Waterproof Mascara ($6.99) for an in instant water-proof / life-proof lock. Just wait a bit until your first mascara dries, then apply 1-2 coats of the NYX and your mascara won’t move. Can also work to set those brows.
The new best in class smudge-proof mascara is the Blinc Amplified Mascara ($26). This mascara forms tubes on your lashes to provide buildable volume and length. Lasts all day and comes easily off. Just use warm water with gentle pressure to nudge the tubes off those lashes.
If you don’t love the tube concept, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Mascara($26) is a good lengthening option that separates lashes and won’t budge all day. Doesn’t clump or need a waterproof makeup remover to take off. This oldie but goody has been a cult favorite for years.
This last but not least is my all time favorite — L’Oréal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara ($10). This low cost mascara doesn’t clump, is safe for sensitive eyes and provides AMAZING length and volume. While it’s not waterproof, it does last all day and comes off with no hassle at night.
OurBFF Tip: To amplify the mascara, wait a few minutes between coats for the mascara to set.
The ultimate smudge proof shadow is the 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eye-shadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($19). Not only does it last all day (12+hours) but it doesn’t need a primer. In fact, it can act as a primer for your favorite shadows and provides SPF. Also, very easy to apply as it doesn’t need a brush and sets quickly.
Another great option is Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($30). These waterproof sticks are really easy to apply — just swipe on to shade or define. Will last you all day without creasing. Also, simple to transport in case you need a touch up during the day. Come in 19 colors.
Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Color ($29) is another excellent stick eye shadow that doesn’t require a brush (most brushes just waste time). It works as both primer and shadow. Also, lasts for 12 hours without coming off on clothes. 28 color options so you can have one for every occasion, in both matte and shimmer hues.
OurBFF Tip: To apply, glide on either the lash line to create a smokey look or on the entire lid for an added pop of color. Use fingers to blend. If you’re using a light cream color, can also be applied to brows as a primer. Just make sure to blend well into the brows before adding brow product.
Even though it’s a bit expensive, the best eyeliner that I found is the waterprooof Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner ($33) (after trying 10+ liners). Not only is it life-proof, but it has a built in sharpener on the bottom so you’re never dealing with a stumped end. Provides a smooth line with 15 color options.
If you prefer a smudge-proof ink line, the Kat Von D Ink Liner ($20) is an awesome option lasting 24 hours. The felt tipped pen is easy to control for both thin and thick lines. Vegan for those of you natural fans out there.
